Sejal Mehta

Sejal Mehta has been a writer and editor (print and digital) for 19 years. She was part of the team that formed the citizen-led Marine Life of Mumbai initiative, leading science communication and outreach, community building and team management. In 2019-20, the initiative launched Coastwise, one of India’s first intertidal festivals. She continues to work with them as an editorial consultant.

She has authored six children’s books for Pratham and contributed to two anthologies for adults published by Scholastic and Hachette India. She is currently working on a book on coastal animals for Penguin Random House.

Sejal has held senior editorial positions at Lonely Planet Magazine India (Deputy Editor), National Geographic Traveller India (Digital Editor) and Nature in Focus (Editor-in-Chief). Her past work includes JPMorgan (Editorial Lead) and Femina. You’ll find her words in newspapers and magazines including ScrollMongabayThe Indian ExpressThe HinduBBC KnowledgeThe Times of India and Conde Nast, to name a few.

To further her individual outreach goals, she sketches at Snaggletooth, a line of nature-inspired merchandise that illustrates positive associations between humans and animals.
