Gowri Shankar is a wildlife biologist and founder director of Kalinga Centre for Rainforest Ecology and Kalinga Foundation. He recently published his discovery of the presence of four species of king cobras as against one, as believed for the last 185 years. His work centers around advancing understanding of reptile ecology and evolution while addressing critical conservation challenges, particularly about snake-human conflict.
He has authored and co-authored several scientific papers on king cobras, other herpetological topics, and book reviews. He has been featured in several wildlife documentaries by BBC, Discovery, NatGeo Wild, and others.
